It’s a play on the word “tides,” blending kupu Māori and English: “tai,” meaning tide, paired with “des,” a shorthand for design. Together, it forms a name that reflects both natural movement and creative practice, drawing on te reo Māori while grounding the work in a contemporary design context.
TAI – the tide
Tai represents the current – the movement that connects us across Aotearoa. It speaks to flow, direction, and the shared energy that carries ideas, people, and kaupapa forward. From Te Tai Tokerau to Te Tai Rāwhiti, Te Tai Hauāuru to Te Tai Tonga, and beyond. We work alongside ambitious businesses, kaupapa-led organisations, and bold founders who are ready to build something enduring. Like the winds of Ngā Hau e Whā, Tai reflects connection across distance and difference, reminding us that while we may move in different directions, we are still part of the same tide.
